Solar Energy is generated directly by the Sun. We may take advantage of Solar radiation through its heating power, or for radiation powered optic devices. Solar Energy is clean and renewable, known as “Green Energy”.

The power of the radiation varies according to the moment of the day, the atmospheric conditions, and the latitude. It is generally assumed that under good conditions of irradiation, its value is over 1000 W/m ² on the Earth’s surface. This power is known as “irradiance”. Radiation components,  direct and diffuse, can be used separately, or together. Direct Solar radiation arrives directly from the Sun, with no intermediate reflections or refractions. Diffuse radiation is sunlight passing through the atmosphere, reflected and scattered by multiple phenomena such as clouds, air molecules, dust, and other atmospheric and terrestrial elements. Direct radiation can be reflected and concentrated for its use, whereas it is not possible to concentrate the diffuse light for it comes from all directions.

Normal Direct irradiance (perperdicular to solar rays), off the atmosphere is called Solar constant, and its average value is 1354 W/m² (considering a maximum value 1395 W/m² at Perihelion and minimum value 1306 W/m² at Aphelion)
